Legs, Body & Head:
Follow the instructions for the legs and body using Black yarn, until you reach the beginning of R15. We're going to do R15 onwards (until we complete the head) with Cream yarn, still following the same steps in the pattern.
Once you're around R23, insert your 25mm black safety eyes. I didn't have any regular safety eyes that large, only the glass ones with the pupils, so I painted the backs of the glass black, which gave the eyes a really cool look!
Ears: Follow the exact same pattern for the ears, beginning with Black, and then switching to Cream for the final round.
Wings: This is probably the biggest changed part - this bat has larger wings than the regular Cute Fruit Bat. This is because we're not going to fold them in half, instead we'll be changing up the final few steps and leaving them big and open.
Follow the wing instructions until the end of R9, then we're going to: Ch 2, turn. *Sl st in the next 4 st, then do [hdc, dc, hdc] all in the same st.* Repeat what's written between the '*' three more times, and then sl st until the end of the piece. Fasten off with a long tail that we'll be using for sewing to the body.
Skeleton/Bones:
This is the fun part that brings it all together! We're going to use the surface crochet method to create the skeleton/bones on your lil' bat.
You can copy the same shaping I did, or you can do your own! I just began with the middle spine and surface crocheted single crochets a few times up until I was happy with the length. Then I did the ribs, the pelvis and the legs.
On the wings, I did the same process, following the shaping of the wings, where I would expect the bones to be. Then I also attached the yarn where we finished off with the black, and did a single crochet row across the top.

And that's it!! You've got a Cute Spooky Skelly Bat! You could do this same process for other animals / plushies too.
Tag me in your creations if you follow my instructions, I'd absolutely LOVE to see them! My Instagram is @Hayleejadeart :)
