FREE Easy Crochet Flower Applique

Updated: Nov 14, 2025

A few years ago, I found myself wanting a little flower applique to add to a plush I was working on at the time, but I couldn't find a nice easy little flower pattern anywhere! So, I made one up myself! It's fairly simple, I'll walk you through it below.

Three crochet flower appliques on a green crocheted chain. One purple flower, one white and one blue.
Flower Appliques made using Marvel Seasons 8 ply yarn from Spotlight

This is a US abbreviated pattern.

Abbreviations used in this pattern:

MR: Magic Ring

Sl St: Slip Stitch

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single Crochet

St: Stitch

Materials

Yarn: Any yarn in two colours! I usually use Marvel Seasons 8ply Yarn from Spotlight, but I've also made a lot of these using thicker chenille yarn, like Premier Yarn's Premier Parfait Chunky Yarn!

Crochet Hook: Choose the size that's recommended for your yarn choice! My favourite brand currently is the Clover crochet hooks - they're seriously a dream to work with.

Scissors & a yarn needle: Any of both will do!

Let's begin!

Starting with your first yarn colour: Sc 5 into MR, pull the MR closed & sl st into the first st, fasten off.

Insert your second yarn colour into any st & attach it securely (tie a knot).

Ch2, yarn over & insert your hook into the same st. Yarn over again & pull up a loop - there'll be 3 loops on the hook now. Yarn over and insert your hook into the same st again, yarn over and pull up another loop - there'll be 5 loops on the hook now. Yarn over once more & pull through all of the loops. Ch 2 & sl st into the same st. Sl st into the next st Repeat the step above in italics until you've completed 5 petals total, one in each st in the MR.

Once you've completed all 5 of the petals, you'll have a pretty little flower, with a yarn tail coming out of the middle, and another coming out of the petals, where we fastened off. I like to use the yarn tail that comes out of the MR to anchor my flower in whatever piece I'm attaching it to, but you can easily weave it in & hide it if that's not necessary! I then use the other tail (the one fastened off from the petals) to sew the flower to whatever I'm attaching it to, but again - you can easily just weave this in & snip it if you don't need it.

And now you're all finished!!

Thank you for using my pattern - if you use it, please show me, I'd love to see it!
