FREE Crochet Flower Coasters

A few years ago, I wanted some cute flower shaped coasters to gift to some friends (and for myself hehe), so I came up with this pattern below.

Perfect for beginners, this easy-to-follow FREE crochet flower coaster pattern creates a 5" x 5" floral coaster using a 4mm hook and 8ply acrylic yarn. Whether you're looking for a fast weekend project, a thoughtful handmade gift, or a cute way to brighten up your coffee table, these coasters are the perfect choice!

It's super easy, I'll walk you through it below!

Two crochet flower shaped coasters, sitting on a oak look background. One flower coaster has purple petals with a yellow center, while the other has pink petals with a yellow center.
Flower Coasters made using Marvel Seasons 8 ply yarn from Spotlight

This is a US abbreviated pattern.

Abbreviations used in this pattern:

MR: Magic Ring

Sl St: Slip Stitch

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single Crochet

Hdc: Half Double Crochet

Dc: Double Crochet

St: Stitch

FO: Fasten off

Rep: Repeat

Materials

Yarn: Any yarn in two colours! I usually use Marvel Seasons 8ply Yarn from Spotlight.

Crochet Hook: Choose the size that's recommended for your yarn choice! My favourite brand currently is the Clover crochet hooks - they're seriously a dream to work with. For 8ply Acrylic yarn, I used a 4mm Crochet Hook.

Scissors & a yarn needle: Any of both will do!

Let's begin!

Inner part of the flower

Starting with Colour A

  1. Make an MR, ch 2 (doesn't count as a st) & dc 12 into the MR. Sl st into the first st & you should have 12 st all around.

  2. Ch 2 & dc 2 into the same st. Dc2 into each st around until you have 24 st in total. Sl st into the first st (not the top of the ch2) & fasten off, weaving in your tail.

Petals

Now with Colour B

  1. Attach your second colour yarn into any outer st of the inner piece.

    Then ch 1 & do:

(hdc3, hdcinc) *6 all the way around. (30)

  2. Next, ch 1 & repeat this all the way around:

*sl st, sc, hdc, dc5 into the next st, hdc, sc.*

Then finish with another sl st.

  3. Ch 1, sl st into the next st. Now repeat this all the way around:

*sc, hdc3, hdc3 into the next st, hdc3, sc, sl st.*

Note: Every 'hdc3 into the next st' should be going into the 'point/middle' of each petal, while every sl st should be going into the lowest point between each petal.

  4. Ch 1, now repeat this all the way around:

*sl st, sc2, (hdc, hdc2 into the next st)*3, sc2, sl st.*

Note: the instructions in this step should take you from one side of the petal to the other side. If you have any extra stitches before the next petal starts, just sl st in each until you get to the next petal.

Fasten off & weave-in/hide all of your ends!

And now you're all finished!!

Thank you for using my pattern - if you use it, please show me, I'd love to see it!
